Director of Intercollegiate Athletics:
Mitchell College is accepting applications for the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. Mitchell sponsors 13 varsity sports and is in the second year of provisional status in NCAA Division III. Having a rich athletic history which emphasizes a balanced athletic program, Mitchell teams have won national championships in two sports as well as numerous regional titles in many programs.
Mitchell College is a residential college of 700 students located on the ocean in New London, Connecticut. Founded in 1938, we are a fully accredited college offering both associate and bachelor degree programs. The comprehensive curriculum includes degree programs in physical education and sports management.
The Director provides vision, leadership, supervision and advocacy for the varsity athletic program including oversight of staff, part-time coaches, sports programs, student-athlete recruiting, athletic facilities and budgets. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director establishes athletics policies and insures that activities are in compliance with NCAA standards.
Qualified candidates must possess a Master’s degree, preferably in a sports related curriculum and minimum of five years of coaching and athletic administrative experience at the collegiate level. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.

Director of Information Services:
Mitchell College invites applications for the position of Director of Information Services. The Director, who reports to the Vice President for Library and Information Technology Services/Chief Information Officer, will play a critical leadership role within a blended organization and is responsible for the direction and vision of all aspects of a dynamic and developing information services environment, including outsourced computing and network operations and applications support, instructional technology, collection management and web services, and telecommunications; for providing leadership in the formation of basic service philosophies, policies, and the development of short and long range goals; and for setting directions related to the advancement of technology planning in support of the institutional mission and in synchronization with strategic planning initiatives.
This individual works closely with the Director of Information Resources and Curriculum Support in the interests of maximizing the potential of a merged Library and Information Technology Services operation for the development of integrated consulting services, information literacy initiatives, instructional design support, web page development, and other collaborative efforts.
The Director works in partnership with other key leaders in the administration and the faculty to enhance the effectiveness of staff and faculty in fulfilling the educational mission of the College by exploring new ways to employ technology to improve business practices, teaching practices, and the overall student living/learning experience.
The ideal candidate will be an agent of change; will possess dynamic leadership and motivational abilities; and will have a record of steadily developing leadership experience in an academic environment with demonstrated skills in budgeting and cost containment, project management, security and identity management, disaster recovery and business continuity, staff development, and team-building.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to service and collaborative and creative problem solving, coupled with a capacity to communicate and work productively and collegially with all campus constituencies. The ability to develop a vision for information technology, and to advance the computing and communications objectives of the College in a highly cost-effective manner is essential. Equally necessary is a firm commitment to supporting the successful evolution of Library and Information Technology Services to a seamless service organization. Candidates must be comfortable in a small, student centered college setting.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree, five years of experience, preferably related to computing and instructional technology services in higher education, including two to three years supervisory/management experience in a technology support or instructional technology computing environment, or a comparable combination of education and experience. An advanced degree is preferred.
This position requires a demonstrated technical background in desktop hardware, operating systems (Windows, Mac OS) and applications (e.g., MS Office suite, SQL, Adobe CS), as well as a practical understanding of networking and applications programming concepts and practices. Other qualifications are: knowledge of emerging and existing information systems and technology; demonstrated experience in coordinating the development, support, and implementation of information systems and technology; and demonstrated success in management of personnel and budgets.
Should possess a broad understanding of resources, trends and issues in academic information services, a vision of the role of library and information technology services in higher education, and should be prepared to lend these insights to an evolving merged library and information services organization in support of the mission of the College.
Faculty Positions beginning August 2007
Assistant Professor - Department of Law and Justice Policy Studies:
The Department presently offers the B.A. degree in several academic tracks, including Justice Studies, Pre-Law, and Criminal Justice Intervention and Treatment. A B.A. degree in Homeland Security is planned for the near future. We seek a Ph.D. (ABD acceptable) with broad interests, but preference will be given to those with an academic and/or professional background in law enforcement. The candidate may be asked to teach a variety of courses, including Introduction to Criminal Justice; Law Enforcement in a Free Society; Juvenile Delinquency; Drugs, Law and Society; Organized Crime; and White Collar Crime.
The Department has 5 faculty members (full and part time) and approximately 105 undergraduate majors. The Justice Systems program at Mitchell College is a structured major that stresses a broad knowledge base in the discipline, a gradual and cumulative building of skills, high expectations of students, and a strong commitment to liberal education.
Department Chair, Assistant/Associate Professor, Department of Hospitality and Tourism:
Mitchell College has been licensed by the State of Connecticut Board of Higher Education to offer a bachelor degree in Hospitality and Tourism. The College is initiating a search for a Department Chair to lead this new and exciting area. The ideal candidate will have earned a doctorate in Hospitality and Tourism or a related discipline. This individual is charged with the responsibility to build the program via student recruitment, hiring new staff, and developing a close relationship with the Department of Professional Studies/Business.
Department Chair, Assistant/Associate Professor, Department of Communication (anticipated position):
Mitchell College has petitioned the State Department of Higher Education to license a new Department of Communication. In anticipation of licensure, the College is initiating a search for a Department Chair of Communication. The ideal candidate will have earned a doctorate in Communication, preferably in the behavioral aspect of the discipline with concentration in other aspects of the field such as broadcasting, TV, journalism, information systems, etc. Appropriate experience both academic and professional is desired.
The program is designed to offer three tracks: performance, behavioral, and technology. In addition, related areas such as Management Communication and Information Technology will eventually be part of this department.
The new chair will be charged with the responsibility to build this area via student recruitment, hiring new staff, and developing a close relationship with the community and other departments in the College.
