Children's Learning Center

The Children’s Learning Center of Mitchell College, a nationally accredited program by NAEYC, strives to work with families to provide full-time, quality childcare and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children between the ages of three and six years.

The Children’s Learning Center is a multi-dimensional early childhood educational facility. A nursery school component is available for families who prefer to send their child to a learning facility for academic and socialization purposes. Additionally, a full-day kindergarten program is available for working parents.

As research demonstrates, the right start in early care and education is fundamental for children to reach their full potential. At the Children’s Learning Center, each youngster is afforded the freedom and opportunity to develop such potential through a carefully designed curriculum, one that promotes a healthy, happy, responsive, and secure environment. The Program is committed to providing a highly competent, nurturing teaching staff. The child-oriented environment supports the health and safety of growing and developing children.

The Children’s Learning Center is distinguished by its close involvement with Mitchell College’s Early Childhood and Human Development majors. Under the close guidance and supervision of the college faculty and the Children’s Learning Center’s teaching staff, our laboratory offers a rich terrain for diverse educational experiences. For example, Human Development and Early Childhood majors are afforded opportunities to work with children and their families, assist special needs youngsters, develop and refine their teaching capacities, assist in conducting research, and participate in program workshops and center-sponsored events.

Combined, all of these program components converge to create a highly creative, energetic, and challenging learning environment for young children. Since its inception, the Mitchell College Children’s Learning Center has emerged as an important facet of southeastern Connecticut’s early childhood program options. In addition, we serve as a State Department of Education School Readiness site, which allows us to diversify and provide equal access to all families in New London.
